Patrol Officer

Patrol assigned areas relative to maintaining law and order and public safety. Must insure and protect complete confidentiality of departmental matters.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Enforce the laws of the United States, State of Arkansas and County ordinances.
  • Investigate, report and aid in prosecution of violators.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations of the POA in regard to public safety, traffic and security within Hot Springs Village. Promotes public safety.
  • Prepare written reports and statistics relative to investigations and incidents.
  • Promote an image of respect and courtesy in accordance with POA and Police policies.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Provide assistance to HSV residents/citizens.

The extensive qualifications for a law enforcement officer are established by state law. Generally, a law enforcement officer must be 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, must pass a physical and psychological examination, must be free of criminal record and must be thoroughly investigated as to character and ability. Must have a satisfactory driving record.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Must be Law Enforcement certified through Arkansas or any other accredited state. Advancement may vary according to needs and positions available.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret law enforcement periodicals, professional journals, court decrees, court decisions, and governmental rules and regulations. Ability to write reports and make oral presentations.

Ability to perform basic functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Ability to solve problems of a practical and abstract nature. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must possess or attain a Basic Certificate from the Arkansas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Training. Must possess a valid Arkansas driver's license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be capable of strenuous running. Must be capable of participating in strenuous firearms and defensive tactics training.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Must be able to work in all types of weather at all hours of the day. Must be able to handle various types of stress associated with the position. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Due to the nature of position, employee is relieved of all duty during a specified lunch break, such break shall be considered an "on duty" meal period and counted as time worked. An "on duty" meal period shall be permitted only when the nature of the work prevents an employee from being relieved of all duty.

Employee is designated as required to work when an office closing is authorized.
